Taking the leap

Its been a busy week. I've been feeling deadlines looming large, and so I have been working extra hard at the lab. This is often frustrating because it frequently feels like taking two steps forward, then one step back (or even often one step forward, and two steps back) with every stage of my thesis. Nothing has gone smoothly from day one. However, lest this post begin to seem like doom and gloom, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and I am working as fast as I can to get there. This means I am working on the computer at home this afternoon, and I will be in the lab all day tomorrow, but the payoff is by the end of next week I will have all the data for my dose response experiment collected, and hopefully another manuscript submitted as well.

Speaking of manuscripts, I believe I'm now allowed to mention, I am a co-author on an upcoming paper in the journal Science (For the non science folks, this is a BIG deal, Science is very high impact factor, i.e. it was one of the two journals to publish the first Human Genome). I'm not first author, just one of a bunch, but still, it has my name on it, its appearing in print, and its going in my C.V.

What with all this finishing up of school Russell and I have been thinking a lot about time management, and pulling things together to start getting ready to graduate, move, and get jobs (not necessarily in that order). As such, we have decided to Take the Leap. As of this afternoon, we have canceled our cable subscription. T.V. was just becoming too much of a time suck. Most of the stuff we watch is online anyway, so when we turn on the television we are usually just vegging out, channel surfing, and its really not healthy. We'll see if we turn it back on after moving and settling in, but we're trying the television free life for a while (and so far it is SWEEEEET)...
