An Open Letter

Dear City of Seattle and Denizens of the Burke Gilman Trail
How have you all been. It's so nice to see you back to your old selves now that we have a streak of beautiful weather. It was getting rather lonely during the rain, I felt like the only bicycle on the path.
To that poor car I accidentally cut off in Frement, I'm sorry. I would have stopped, I usually do, but the way the city has planted those lovely trees at the crossing. The ones to beautify the trail, and prevent pedestrians and cyclists from having to see the shipyards, have grown up so that they completely block the view of oncoming traffic. Thank you for being so patient and not honking. And to the city, maybe we can get together and trim those trees. Really, I don't mind seeing a little of the working water front.
To all the pedestrians and joggers who kindly wear lights at night. THANK YOU. It makes you visible. My own little light isn't nearly bright enough I know, and in the oncoming headlights, your little red flashy on your shoe makes it so I can see you.
To all the pedestrians, joggers, occasional dog walkers, and cyclists (who should know better) who are on the trail at night, dressed in dark clothing, with no reflectors or lights. Please, buy yourselves an early christmas gift, or put it on your holiday list. A little l.e.d. is very cheap, and I would hate to run into you (or especially your dog, you could clip it to his collar) by accident, but I really can't see you in the oncoming lights.
To the woman with all the lights, the two headlights, triplet flashy tail lights, spokelights, reflector vest with led pocket lights (I am not kidding), and lights down the front, while part of me compared you to a christmas tree (all that red and green and white) you made me smile, if only we were all so safe, I hope you're ride was safe, dry, and not too windy.

Keep it safe and real, stay sharp and alert
Sincerely
Meredith
